Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Cutaneous aging results from the progressive degradation of the extracellular matrix and the reduction of fibroblast activity, culminating in wrinkles, skin laxity, and facial volume loss. Within regenerative aesthetics, the collagen biostimulators Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) and Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) stand out for their ability to promote neocollagenesis and improve skin quality.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze scientific evidence regarding the mechanisms of action, clinical indications, efficacy, and safety of these two biomaterials through facial rejuvenation treatments within regenerative aesthetic practice.

Materials and Methods: This is a review designed to systematically, orderly, and comprehensively select the main studies and scientific evidence available on the chosen theme.

Discussion: The studies indicate that Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) acts gradually, stimulating fibroblasts through controlled subclinical inflammation, whereas Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) provides immediate volumization and biostimulation with a lower inflammatory response. Both demonstrate good safety and efficacy profiles, but differ in duration of action, physical properties, and specific clinical indications.

Conclusion: Both Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) and Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) are effective alternatives for facial rejuvenation, and the choice between them should consider therapeutic objectives, the treated anatomy, and the individual patient profile. However, more robust comparative studies are still needed.
