Abstract

ABSTRACT: Cutaneous aging consists of a decrease in cell function due to intrinsic or extrinsic factors and, above all, its main clinical consequences, which are characterized by wrinkles, sagging, as well as hyperpigmentation, thickening and even roughness. Collagen is seen as a protein produced in the body, which has the function of promoting elasticity to the skin and keeping the body's cells fully united, because over time there may be a decrease in this protein in the body and this leads to the appearance of wrinkles and also the dryness of the skin. Knowing this, this research was structured through the following problem: How can collagen be used to combat aging? This article aims to discuss, through a literature review, the importance of collagen supplementation in the fight against aging. In light of this, it should be noted that, for its execution, research was carried out on various sites such as: Scielo and Google Scholar, in order to search for articles that addressed the aforementioned theme. After its completion, it was discovered that among the different types of treatments used in skin aging due to collagen loss, the use of oral supplements has been presented as a good option, as it has effective effects on the skin. , thus allowing a good appearance to occur and also increasing the self-esteem of the elderly person.
