Utilização de ácido poli-l-láctico em procedimentos de rejuvenescimento facial
Main Article Content
Abstract
Pursuing eternal youth and beauty has always been a constant in human history. Scientific and technological advancements have brought new techniques that are less invasive than plastic surgeries, reducing costs, recovery time, and discomfort. Facial injectable procedures have evolved significantly over the past decades, popularizing techniques such as botulinum toxin, hyaluronic acid fillers, and more recently, collagen bio-stimulators. In the skin, reduced cellular activity leads to visible changes such as expression lines and wrinkles, primarily caused by a decrease in collagen and elastin production. Collagen, crucial for skin firmness and elasticity, decreases with age, causing wrinkles and sagging. Collagen bio-stimulators, like poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), are injectable substances that stimulate the natural production of collagen and regenerate tissues, improving skin appearance. Used since 1999, PLLA is an absorbable synthetic polymer that restores facial volume and promotes collagen production, offering natural results with a low risk of adverse reactions. Understanding the characteristics of bio-stimulators helps professionals achieve aesthetic results with fewer complications. Within this context, this study aimed to highlight the benefits of using poly-L-lactic acid in facial rejuvenation procedures through an integrative review of scientific literature. The results indicate that subcutaneous or supraperiosteal application of collagen bio-stimulators, such as poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra® and Elleva®), stimulates collagen production by fibroblasts. This improves firmness, reduces sagging, and enhances skin quality, preventing or reversing facial aging with a low risk of severe complications.
